Round 6 opened with a clash between the 1st placed Central Spears and the 2nd placed UC Firebirds. Both teams came out firing but the Spears were too tough and came away with a 24-14 victory. It appeared that both teams were missing players in key positions but the question remains, who can knock the spears off their winning streak?
Game two saw 3rd take on 4th with the Centurions defeating the Tuggeranong Tornadoes 48-12. The Centurions put on a strong display and have 2 weeks to recover before going into their final 3 games of the season.
The Spears’ victory this week guarantees them a spot in the finals as they are sitting on top of the ladder on 10 points. The Firebirds and the Centurions are both 4 points behind them, tied for 2nd place with 3 wins and 2 losses on 6 points. The Tornadoes have just 1 win and 2 points under their belt and are sitting at 4th place. The Gungahlin Wildcats, who had the bye this week, are still at the bottom of the ladder and must win their next 4 games to have a chance at the finals.
This weekend, there will be no football as all teams break for the Labor Day Long Weekend. Many teams will welcome this break as it provides a chance to recover and train for the last stint in the season. Gridiron will return to Greenway Oval on Saturday the 10th of October with Round 7 of the Senior Men’s competition and the commencement of the Junior Competition
